The Quarter

The original settlement of New Orleans is now the Vieux Carré (‘Old Square’) or French Quarter.  On the river’s edge and bordered by Canal Street,  Rampart Street and Esplanade Avenue, the French Quarter is the heart and historical center of New Orleans.  Here is where you’ll find most of what makes this city so appealing; St Louis Cathedral, Jackson Square, Café du Monde, the French Market and Bourbon Street.  With little remaining of the French Colonial architecture, the old homes and businesses reflect more of the 18th century Spanish and Creole influences, seen in the flat-tiled roofs and lacy wrought iron railings along the balconies and galleries. Take your time and thoroughly explore the French Quarter.
