New Orleans has a decent amount of both art and historic museums especially for the size of the city (Pop. 600,000 before Katrina). You may notice that there is a thriving art community and you’ll see artists exhibiting their paintings on courtyard fences. You may also notice that the French Quarter is filled with fine art galleries. The city’s museums, however are not quite of the same caliber as the museums in Europe. There is nothing here to rival the Louvre or Musee d’Orsay, but there are a few gems to be found.
